Channel Type Static Mixers
Statiflo's Channel and Duct Static Mixers are revolutionising the design and operation of water and wastewater treatment plants.
Statiflo Series 900 Channel Mixers achieve a high grade mix with extremely low head in very short lengths.
Complete mixing in the channel, low CoV is possible over a wide flow range. With headroom of only a few millimetres possible, gravity flow is an option that eliminates pumping costs, saving not only capital costs but also reducing ongoing maintenance and energy costs.
Statiflo Channel Mixers can be installed in new treatment works or easily retrofitted into existing plants, even when flooded and inhabited. The modular design concept based on STMC mixing elements allows for wide variations in aspect ratio (height/width) suitable for square or nearly square channel sections, narrow deep channels and wide shallow channels. Independent trials have shown that the STMC concept is the most efficient of all known static mixers on the market.
Open channels can develop unusual velocity profiles not found in conventional piping systems. Statiflo has invested heavily in developing a procedure to ensure that the correct amount of additive is injected in proportion to the local mainstream flow rate.
Applications include:
Raw water blending
pH control
Rapid coagulation addition
Polyelectrolyte dosage
Residence period control
The high efficiency and benefits of the channel static mixer are applicable to any scale, the largest installed to date being 7m wide x 5m deep and using 7t/sec of water.
Gas Distribution Systems
The Statiflo Gas Dispersion System (GDS) is a new concept for simultaneous mixing and mass transfer.
The Statiflo GDS has been designed to overcome the difficulties associated with using a single static mixer. The system uses two separate mixers, first to create small gas bubbles in the side stream, and second in the main line to ensure contact time and efficient mass transfer. Since the gas bubbles are created in a constant side stream, the size of the gas bubbles is constant and independent of changes in the main liquid flow.
Wastewater Mixers
Statiflo Non-Ragging Pipe Mixer (NR)
The Statiflo NR Pipe Mixer is specifically designed for mixing sludge or wastewater applications with high fibre content.
In full-scale trials with a large UK water utility, the Statiflo NR Pipe Mixer outperformed all competitor designs including a static mixer, an orifice plate and mud valves.
These images and graphs show the superior performance of the Statiflo NR Mixer compared to its competitors' mixers. The graph shows the typical effects of raging with increased headspace and reduced flow until the competitor's mixer stopped working in less than four hours.
The Statiflo NR Mixer has been proven suitable for the following applications:
Mud mixing
Mud thickening
Ferric sulphate and ferric chloride dosage for phosphorus removal
Coagulant / polymer dosage
Sewage chemical dosage
Industrial wastewater treatment with fibers including paper stock
The unique mixing element design of the Statiflo NR Mixer provides:
High performance mixing low CoV
Free flow design provides excellent resistance to clogging and impaction
Consistent mix quality
Low pressure drop
Easy to clean
Wide range of diameters available
Excellent discharge ability
Available in PVC or stainless steel construction materials
Statiflo Non-Ragging Static Channel Mixer (NRC)
A static channel mixer without cloth for metering wastewater into wastewater, including raw sewage. The Statiflo NRC Mixer is specifically designed for P removal applications, but can equally be used in any chemical metering service in raw sewage where clothless sewage-free characteristics are required. It features a unique variable geometry specifically designed for the widest range of wastewater velocities and channel depths found in a typical wastewater treatment plant.
Cloth-free design of the mixer:
Variable angle control wings tuned to optimize performance within tight headband constraints
Manual or automatic (power required) control wing options
Integrated accessible spreader for chemical injection
Subsurface fixed vanes to increase mixing at low depth
Designed for easy installation in live open channels
Adaptable design for a wide range of channel sizes, aspect ratios, water depths and flow rates
No direct power requirement for mixing
Upgrading from the usual dosing to the Statiflo NRC Mixer using an open-ended pipe will provide many process benefits:
Significant chemical savings
Improved primary sedimentation tank performance
Reduced BOD load
Higher sludge concentrations
Reduced Fe concentration in final effluent/sludge
Reduced or eliminated channel staining
Significant cost savings
Purification Mixers
DesalMixer (DSM)
This is a range of static mixers specifically designed to meet the specific requirements of the global desalination industry.
Statiflo DSM provides the highest mix quality with minimum additive dosages, eliminating overdosing to maximize fluid dosing efficiency and membrane life. The need for dosing is eliminated by small additive drop holes supported by internal baffles.
Statiflo DSM has been independently tested for pressure drop and mix quality (coefficient of variation, CoV) by BHR Group, a world leader in fluid engineering, research and consultancy. The mixers have been tested at realistic industry fluid speeds and additive ratios and have been shown to achieve better than industry standard mix quality results.
APPLICATIONS
Pretreatment practices to minimize biofouling, leakage and membrane fouling: -
Input mixing
pH control
disinfection
Tight
Clotting
Flocculation
The latest techniques for design and modelling have been used to develop the Statiflo DesalMixer (DSM) for turbulent flow dosing and blending applications in the pre-treatment and post-treatment stages of desalination processes.
FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES
3 versions, ultra-short length (0.25D), standard length (0.5D) and extended length (1.0D) - for both fast (highest head brightness) and slow mixing (lowest head brightness) tasks (e.g. coagulation and disinfection)
Single and multiple injection options. Internal configuration directs and rotates the main spiral into the additional release zone for efficient mixing without the need for internal spreaders or baffles. Undiluted additive is released on the pipe wall above the mixer.
High mixing quality (typical CoV 0.05) can be achieved up to 3 diameters downstream, independent of the ratio of main stream to make-up stream flow rates.
Specially designed versions for fitting on customer's pipes.
Simple, robust configuration that requires virtually no maintenance.
There is no inner spear.
There is no small additional opening hole to eliminate the possibility of blocking/clogging.
Available in all standard and special diameters from 300 mm to several metres.
No need for standby injectors.
Short length - low installation costs.
Low pressure drop – 70% less than other 'short' mixer designs.
Available in all industry standard building materials.
